Although the sale of the estate left groups of farms in the hands of people from outside the parish the position steadily changed in the last half of the 20th century and at the start of the new millennium the five remaining Scawton farms are owned by the families who work them.
Scawton has always been broadly divided into two communities, those living in the centre of the village and those at outlying farms and the following table shows that changes to the farming structure of the village centre have been greater than those to the outlying farms.
