There was an additional tenanted land of 36 acres ling, 90 woods, small plots totalling 6 acres and 42 acres described as scrogs [bracken] making a total of 1,291 acres but there was also 1,300 acres of untenanted land which included common land, wood and ling which made a total acreage of 2,529 compared with the 1,080 recorded in the Domesday Survey and 963 recorded in 1683 showing that there had been a gradual increase in the size of the Scawton estate.
