The Fairfax Lordship of Scawton continued throughout the 18th century but no estate surveys have survived for the period and changes and the relative importance of tenancies can only be gauged from the rent rolls

In 1717 Papist landlords were required to register their estates and the following lands in Scawton were registered by Charles, Lord Viscount Fairfax of Emnla in the Kingdom of Ireland but the list was far from complete
None of the above names appeared on the 1708 rent roll but the parish registers show that some did live in the village. Elizabeth daughter of Thomas Nordus was baptised in 1726. Jane the daughter of Edward Hornby was baptised in 1690 and as he married Ann Barton in 1684 she may have been the widow Hornby on the list.. George Wilson was described as a yeoman when he died in 1722 and John Johnson married Elizabeth Memson in 1697
